Pinewood Derby Sweep

Hayden had his first pinewood derby tonight and he had a blast!! The announcer was awesome!!  He’s a “professional” and his track was all digital. It showed the time down to the .001 second.  Wow!!

He had each boy do four "Heats", each boy got to run on all four tracks so it was fair. Right off the bat, Hayden’s car broke the announcers fastest record and then he proceeded to win every heat! Hayden was beaming from ear to ear. We were feeling so happy! Then we were trying to keep a poker face.

Next the four fastest cars lined up for the final heat.

Do You Think Hayden's Excited or what?!!

The first heat was on and BAM!! Hayden's car took first place AND beat his fastest record. Next, in the second heat, the announcer said something like, "Woah!! where did that car come from? where did he come from? that almost wasn't even fair!" (lol) Hayden's car came in first AGAIN!

On the third heat, Hayden's car seemed to catch on something and drag a bit. . . making Cole's car come in first place and Hayden come in a close second. I actually felt a little relieved - give someone else a turn :)

The final heat and Hayden's car not only came in first again but broke his fastest time again!!  Wow what a night!!

The Final Scores!!

"Mom, It's Fun to Win!"

Hayden won his soccer game today and he said to me, "mom, it's fun to win!"  "I'm going to call up Spencer and see if he won too, because then we can talk about it together. It feels really good to win."

What a cutie patootie!  He really did awesome, they started probably in the first fifteen minutes being two down, but in the second half they really did good and ended up taking a win!!

Parent Teacher Conferences . . . . ✓

Last night Josh asked me to go online and make sure to sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences. I discovered then that Parent Teacher Conferences were the NEXT day.  Needless to say, I could not sign up for a spot.  I totally blew it!! The thing is, Josh had some areas I was concerned with and really wanted to talk to his teacher.  I figured I'd have to schedule a separate time - after school one day or at lunch or something. Which was going to have to work, because I have a head cold which has not been letting me sleep and I really didn't want to try to fit it in.

Well, today when Hayden came home he said, "Mom, mom (do you feel the sense of emergency here) . . . we have to go to Parent Teacher Conference TONIGHT at 7:30pm." I told him how I'd messed up and didn't schedule a time. He insisted we were supposed to go at 7:30pm TONIGHT!  He told me his teacher said so. I decided to trug on over AND try to fit in a meeting with Josh's teacher too. We did it! It worked out perfect!! Got them both done.

I don't have perfect report cards to share, but the kids are doing well and the best they can. It was a beneficial thing to do. Their favorite part?  The Book Fair.

Can't complain about that!!

Christmas Traditions

I think it's been almost every year so far in our marriage, except for maybe the first few that we have gone to the McFarlane's for Christmas Eve and spent Christmas Day with the Quick's. This year Mom & Dad Quick got to go see Mandy for Christmas Day so they had their party on Christmas Eve. It was a lot of fun. Gma Quick was SO SO generous this year!! She had 32 presents for each of us to open!!

WOW!! They had SO MUCH FUN!! They were so excited and loved each one!

We had fun just watching them open the presents and see their faces when their stacks were placed before them. :) :) :)

It was fun to see that Gma Quick had almost as much fun giving them the gifts as they did opening them.

Jeffrey & I got present's too :) :) :) We felt very spoiled!!!

Christmas Day ended up pretty quiet. The kids had a good time finding out what they received and had a fun time playing with their new toys.

Then it was just quiet the rest of the day. I realized I should have planned some fun things out for Christmas Day, but I had nothing.

Lynda White's family does a fun sock exchange as part of her party on Christmas Day and they have often gone to see a movie or they go up to the ski resorts and go sledding. That might be something fun & for us to do in the future for our family.

Baptism Day

Hayden was baptized on Saturday, August 28 at 11:30 am. He was SO excited!! He has waited for this day for a long time. Did you know that he has talked to me about getting baptized now for at least a year. He was super excited about it. He also waited an extra month because he really wanted his friend to be able to come to it. Isaac Peterson has a b-day just three days after his and he really wanted to see him get baptized and be able to have Isaac see him get baptized.

Hayden was the only one in our ward that was getting baptized from our stake this month. So he was in charge of the whole program.

He chose to sing Come Follow Me and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the opening and closing songs. He wanted Pam to lead the music and was excited that Wesley could play the piano and Haylee played the flute!! He wanted Grandma and Grandpa Quick to say the prayers.
Then I asked him who he wanted to give the talks. There was a Holy Ghost talk and a Baptism talk. He thought for a while and then said he wanted dad to do it. :) I told him maybe since dad was baptizing him and confirming him that we could ask someone else in the family to do that. I helped suggest lots of aunts and uncles that he could ask. He listened and then said, mom I want Josh to give the Holy Ghost talk - so we asked Josh and he said sure. Then he said, "Mom want you to give the baptism talk." Okie dokie.

I was so glad so many could come and Grandma Quick said in her prayer that she felt the spirits of those present and those unable to attend. I thought that was so special because I felt the same way.

Hayden, I pray that you will be able to feel the Holy Ghost directing you for good and that you will have the strength to follow through with those feelings and directions. I believe when you feel those promptings that they are coming right from your Heavenly Father. He loves you so much. I know because I love you so much too.
